The Electronic Information Board project began
when Onelan supplied a Net-Top-Box (NTB). tymedia, a local graphics design house,
helped Onelan to produce a template for the College
which was pre-loaded onto the Net-Top-Box. IT
technician Adrian Bridges, of Deskscreen Solutions
Ltd, learnt to use the box with it linked to a
standard monitor.
Shiplake
consulted with a David Lawton of BITS Audio Visual on
the final positioning of the screen and issues such as
security, access and size of LCD display. A 32" screen was
chosen as it allows a good size text to be displayed
without dominating the wood panelled
hallway of the Victorian building. The Onelan system
allows the user to point a zone at a URL and its
ability to handle JavaScript allows it to take a much
'richer' content in addition to the built-in scrolling
text. In addition the ability to mix content sources
within any zone allows text, html and images all to
appear in turn giving great flexibility to 'catch the
eye' of pupils.
